Long Riders Gear, located on California’s central coast in San Luis Obispo, was formed in 1996 during the time company owner, Tracy Bailey, competed in competitive trail and endurance riding. Long Riders Gear offers a wide selection of quality, reasonably priced equine products including horse tack, riding apparel, horse trailer gear, and gifts, for everyone from the competitive long distance horse and rider to pleasure horseback riders, worldwide. Experienced trail riders, "The Gals" (Tracy and her staff of friendly horse folks) have the background to cater to each customer’s individual needs.
Tracy, Owner, has had a life-long love of horses. Long Riders Gear gives Tracy ample opportunity to share her love of horses and riding with her customers. In fact, when you call Long Riders Gear, you'll often be talking to Tracy. She enjoys yoga on horseback, trail work parties, and riding endless trails on Soleil, her super-sweet Tennessee Walker. Soleil, meaning "sun" in French, lives up to his name with his warm, sunny disposition. He and Tracy enjoy long trail rides with their riding buddies, taking in the stunning vistas of California's beloved Central Coast.
Julie, Website & Marketing, offers her creative talents cyber-commuting from her home in Nevada. She maintains the website, creates our newsletter and print ads, and keeps our Facebook page fun! Julie was a friendly voice on our phone lines as Customer Service Rep. from '02-'07. She grew up blazing trails in Alaska on her Morab. She now gallops through Nevada's Calico Basin on a Mustang. She completed her first ride & tie and first endurance ride this year.
Amanda, Customer Service & Shipping, is often the gal who replies personally to orders and emails. She rides and trains horses for a local natural horsemanship trainer and loves teaching children's riding lessons. Since her first opportunity with her pony in 4-H, she has enjoyed riding dressage, driving carriages, competing in vaulting, and volunteering for the local therapeutic riding program. More often than not, she is found in jeans and sneakers atop a horse without a saddle - but is always ready to take on a new adventure. Watch for Amanda & Maddie on the ride & tie trail next season!
Alexandra, Customer Service & Shipping, recently graduated from Cal Poly with a degree in Animal Science. At three she started riding lessons and she has since lived and breathed horses. Growing up she spent hours-on-end riding in the arena and on the trail. At Cal Poly, Alex was involved with all things horses, from polo to the breeding enterprise and the working cow horse enterprise - and it was there she discovered her true passion was training and working with young Quarter Horses. Put a cow in front of them and it can't get any better!
Katie, Shipping, is a CalPoly graduate with a degree in Animal Science. She loves all animals and also works at the Avila Sea Life Center in Avila Beach on the weekends. She doesn’t own a horse, but loves to go riding with Amanda and is naturally talented with horses. She has her sights set on grad school to further her studies in zoology. She's super smart and fun-loving and definitely adds to the happy vibe in the office!
Muriel, All-Around Girl Friday & Tracy’s Mom, her bright smile and "can-do", upbeat presence contribute to the fun team atmosphere here at Long Riders. Muriel helps with processing website orders, maintains our extensive contacts list, and quite simply spreads her contagious laughter! You might catch her sweet voice on the phone when Tracy's on a post office run with Shanti, the office pooch. Muriel is the boot-scootin' life of the party!
Maddie, helps with merchandising in the tack store a few hours a week after her SLO High classes and hockey practice, and before heading out to the barn. Her pony is a 6-year old Haflinger named Jake (aka "J"). J is a little punk sometimes, but they make a great team! Making great progress with bridleless riding, they recently cantered over a jump without reins! Maddie, Jake and Amanda plan to team up to compete in ride & tie, so watch out for this trio in 2012, ride & tiers!
Elton, Rookie “Security” Guard and Amanda's beloved Catahoula, maintains order, performs scent screenings, surveys activities and incidents while on "sedentary patrol", and periodically reports said activities if they involve food. Like any good security pooch, Elton enjoys chewing up shipping boxes in-between his renown marathon naps.
Shanti, Senior Office Pooch, joined the LRG staff in 2005 and performs such duties as greeting, training The Gals, foot-warming, and cleaning up left-over lunches. He also assists The Gals with stress relief and post office and Starbucks runs. Shanti offers inspiration in showing exemplary love and grace to everyone, living life to its fullest and admirably not concerning himself with what others think. In his spare time, Shanti enjoys playing with his adopted siblings, going for long walks and hikes, and taking siestas on the sofa with Tracy nearby.
